Investigating the different types of back ups

In today's digital world, losing your data can be catastrophic for your business. As a business owner, it's crucial to choose the right type of backup to ensure your data is protected. There are three main types of backups: full, differential, and incremental. Let's take a closer look at each type to help you decide which one is right for your business.

Categories of back ups

Full Backup

A full backup is exactly what it sounds like: it's a complete backup of all your data. This type of backup takes longer to complete than the other types of backups because it has to copy all of your data. However, it's the most comprehensive type of backup and provides the most complete protection against data loss. It's best used for small businesses that have a moderate amount of data or those with slower internet speeds.

Differential Backup

A differential backup only backs up the data that has changed since the last full backup. This type of backup is quicker than a full backup but still requires a significant amount of time to complete. Differential backups are best used for businesses with large amounts of data, as they can reduce the amount of time and storage space needed for backups.

Incremental Backup

An incremental backup only backs up the data that has changed since the last backup, whether it's a full or incremental backup. This type of backup is the quickest and requires the least amount of storage space. Incremental backups are ideal for businesses with limited storage space or those with a high amount of data change. However, restoring data from an incremental backup can be time-consuming, as it may require restoring multiple backups to get to the desired data.

Choosing the Right Backup Type

It's also important to note that backups should be stored in multiple locations, such as an external hard drive, a NAS (network attached storage) and/or cloud storage, to ensure maximum protection against data loss.
